Head Coach

Centre alumnus Jay Hoffman (265-70-27) has been the head coach of Colonels women's soccer since the 2004 season. A 1996 graduate of Centre College, Hoffman has led the program to conference, regional and national success.

Highlights of Hoffman’s tenure include ten consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2011-present), ten straight Southern Athletic Association titles (2012-present) and a 2015 NCAA Final Four run.

During the COVID-shortened 2021 spring season, Hoffman guided the Colonels to their highest ever ranking, as they ended the regular season ranked no. 2 in the nation, with the lone loss of the year coming against Division I Western Kentucky.

In 2018 and 2019 Centre completed the first and second ever undefeated and untied regular seasons in program history. The Colonels went 42-1-1 overall across 2018 and 2019, and a pristine 14-0 in-conference, marking the program’s sixth and seventh SAA regular season titles since the league began in 2012. They finished undefeated during both regular seasons - doubling down on the historic 2018 season by repeating the feat in 2019.

Hoffman mentored a host of highly-touted individuals during the recent stretch. In 2018, he coached three All-Americans in Jessie Turner, Averi Faulk and Alana Hughes. He was named SAA Coach of the Year for his efforts, while Turner (Defensive POY), Hughes (Offensive POY) and Cameron Zak (Newcomer) each garnered major conference honors. In 2019, Hughes and Turner repeated as All-Americans and conference Players of the Year, and Hoffman gathered another SAA Coach of the Year award.

Undoubtedly the best season in program history came in 2015, when the Colonels advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the first time ever while winning a record 21 matches. That remarkable season came on the heels of a NCAA Elite Eight appearance in 2014.

A big player during those runs for Hoffman was Destinie Graves, the program’s first-ever two-time First Team All-American (2015 & 2016). Graves, a two-time SAA Offensive Player of the Year, set the single-season goals record with 27 in 2015.

Hoffman himself has garnered several accolades, including conference and regional Coach of the Year honors.

Coach Hoffman lives in Danville, Ky. with his wife Laura and his daughters Kate and Rebecca. As well as being head coach for the Colonels, Coach Hoffman also coordinates the transportation for all of the athletics at Centre.
